Artist's Comments

Since ~stargorger requested I convert my website tutorials into devart files... People can't say I don't listen to requests!!! This same tutorial (and others) can be found in the Tutorials section of my site. Be warned, this file is Hoooge! Dial-upers would be better advise to view it on my website, as it's broken up & loads faster. This is a pretty thorough tut, for both beginner and advanced PS users. It spells things out step by step, complete with hints and tricks, & assumes you don't know hardly anything about PS filter settings. If you know your way around PS, you can probably scan through most of it, or just follow the picturres instead of reading my blabbering.

I hope this is helpful! Please let me know what you thought of iit.

Oh, this will be very helpful! I always hate how my hand-drawn linearts come out so awkward, blocky, and pixeled after scanning- thank-you so much for making this! I've seen other tutorials, but there's a lot of extra detail and stuff about the program the tutorial-maker uses (it's generally CS or something, but I have Adobe 5...), but yours is simple, clean, and very easy to understand. I'll try this out on the next picture I scan :D

Why take when you could be giving,
and why watch as the world goes by?
It's a hard enough life to be living-
why walk when you can fly?

Love the way you did the wing membranes btw. ^^

I think this is going to be a big help!

Actually it took me about a day to put it together. And It doesn't attract that many people, but I know some devarters are too lazy to go to my website.

Thanks for the tutorial! This style of shading I struggle with, I'll be sure to give your way a try next time I do it. Usually what I do to get my line art on a separate layer from the white though is to first convert the image to grayscale - create a new layer from background - select: load selection: gray: invert - Then new fill layer (this layer becomes the lines, and so you can choose any color to make your lines, then do another fill layer for the background and happily color inbetween! I usually use this on pieces that I've inked by hand.
