Grey Fox by Flowerlark Grey Fox by Flowerlark
My, but it's been a while. Still, feels good sometimes to return to your roots.

Sketch done today to stave off boredom. A bit crude, yes, but it was more for fun than anything.

Drawn from photohraph on Wildlife Explorer Card, Group 1, card # 192. No photographer cited.

Beautifully done grey fox! The sketchings of each stroke blend nicely together creating the fur. Personally, one of the most challenging things to draw in graphite is fur, and you just acheived this wonder. Bravo!

I think its the eyes that do it :) It makes it look so alive :) excellent pencil skills :) I cant really fault it, cept I'd love to see it with a background... But thats something I hardly ever do either :) Its always so scary especialy with real drawings... Thank goodness for photoshop! :P

Thank you! Several people have tried to get me to do a bg for this one ;) I';m just too laaaazzzy! Hee hee. It was really more of an 'I'm bored" piece than a real attempt at anartwork, but I ended up liking how it turned out. ><

This has to be my favorite one. How did you get the eyes and fur to look that real? It must of took pretty long.

Actually, I think it only took about 3 hours. And, um... practice? I can't really say how I do anything other than just practicing a lot. Instructional books never hurt for gathering hints & tips, either. "Draw Real Animals" by Lee Hammond is a good book as a jumping off point.

And thank you! I'm glad you like it! :boogie:

Hmm, there's really not that much I can say about realistic animal pencil drawings, but here goes:
Fur rendering is great. I'll admit, I'm absolutely terrible at it, so I've got no idea how you've done it, but whatever it was, it really does look excellent.
Anatomy appears to be spot on, as usual.
The only possible negative thing I can think of to say is that a background would be really suitable here, and that's not so much of an active critism as a suggestion of "wouldn't it be cool if..."
As usual, great job.

Yrah.... I'm much too lazy for backrounds, I only do them on big projects. I thought about doing one, but then got impatient. :)

And, as usual, your detailed & thoughtful comments are always much appreciated. :D
